A bookshelf is the perfect space to store (and show off!) your literary treasures, whether they’re classics by literary greats, thrillers or no-nonsense, nonfiction tomes. And to make sure your bookshelf is the perfect fit, here are a few things to ask yourself before you buy: how many books do you want to store? How much weight does the shelf need to bear? How many books can you fit on one shelf? Are you likely to buy more books in the near future? Which wood or colour matches the rest of your room best?
First of all, you can be sure of a stable shelf with MYCS, as they can be fixed to the wall. Our shelves are also equipped with adjustable feet as standard. These ensure your shelf’s stability by balancing out any uneven floors. Depending on its width, each individual board can bear a weight of either 20 (for 73cm boards) or 30kg (for 37cm boards). In book terms, this equates to approximately eight books per 37cm shelf, or 16 books per 73cm shelf. If you’re a real bookworm and always looking to expand your collection, you might wish to consider investing in a wall-to-wall shelf for your personal library. Furthermore, thanks to our modular system, you can add extra elements to your shelf at any time.
From leather bound classics to boldly typeset modern masterpieces, books come in all shapes and sizes - just like MYCS shelves. But, if you’re looking for a piece that make your books look like they were made for each other, wood is the way to go. Wooden bookcases are understated enough not to clash with the bright book spines, yet also radiate warmth. A dark wood bookcase creates the perfect cosy atmosphere for snuggling up with a book. An oak bookshelf, by contrast, boasts an expressive grain that harmonises well with lighter coloured rooms.
Our vertical shelf panels are subtly pre-drilled at intervals of 32.5mm, so they can always be adapted to fit your storage needs. This means you can move individual shelves within your bookcase to make space for, for example, larger books, such as high-end photo books or dictionaries.
In addition, our standard shelves have feet which counteract uneven floors. But if you’d prefer to make more of a statement, you can also add one of our shelf feet styles to your design. Both our Scandinavian-inspired NORDYC and truly minimalist LYFT feet complement any bookcase design. If you’re looking to store more than just books, our closed shelving is a practical way to protect your belongings from dust.
The front panels of our shelves are all fitted with a push-to-open mechanism as standard to maintain an understated, minimalist look. Alternatively, we also offer aluminium handles in a range of colours. If you opt for these, drawers and cupboards will be additionally equipped with a soft-close function for a truly luxurious feel. We also offer the option of skirting board cutouts for your shelf. These not only save on space, but also create a polished finish and make it easier to fix the shelf to the wall.
At MYCS, our mission is to make customisation the new normal. Our online configuration tool therefore enables you to select the dimensions, materials and colours of your product, and add space-saving extras such as skirting board cutouts and backwalls. The result is a wholly unique, seamlessly designed bookshelf which not only meets your needs, but looks the part, too.
From ladder bookshelves to corner bookshelves and everything in between, our team of interior designers are here to help you create a unique, custom-made shelf. You can either chat in person at one of our showrooms across Europe, or contact them via email at email@example.com to discuss your needs.
